            WHAT EXACTLY IS DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE?

Massage therapy relieves pain from injuries, stress and muscular tension through the manipulation of soft tissues of the body.Massage treatment enables the body’s recovery and healing process from some acute and chronic conditions. Additionally, it enhances lymph and blood circulation.supplying fresh oxygen and nutrients to the recovering tissues as well as flushing out the body’s toxins. Deep Tissue massage focuses on relieving severe muscular and connective tissue  (fascia) through releasing the deeper muscles located below the top muscular surface. Deep tissue massage techniques concentrate on very slow, long flowing strokes, gliding in and out of the muscles.  If a therapist massages too rapidly the muscle can become tense, which is an undesirable reaction for the therapist.  To attain muscle release on certain trouble areas, massage therapists often sustain consistent firm pressure on that area, prior to moving on to the next part of the body. Deep tissue massage is frequently recommended for people who regularly engage in heavy physical activity, such as patients who have suffered a physical injury or athletes or individuals who suffer with ongoing pain. How does Deep Tissue Massage work?

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles.

Will Deep Tissue Massage hurt?

Deep Tissue Massage therapy can hurt, but clients often describe it as “a good hurt”. There can be pain or aching when I apply pressure over “knots” and other areas of muscle tension. If the pressure is too strong for you, let me know and I will adjust.I will work with you,using the perfect amount of pressure for you to get the most benefit within your own comfort range.There is usually some stiffness or pain after a deep tissue massage,but it should subside within a day or so.
